The Ports Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (PCIID) of the Nigeria Police Force in Apapa on Tuesday arraigned one Felix Samuel, 40, before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the cable belonging to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
Samuel is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and unlawful damage.
The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 15, 2019 at about 3:50am at Lillypond Terminal, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired with others at large to steal 71 metres of cable of different sizes whose value is yet unknown, property of Nigerian Ports Authority,” Balogun said.
Balogun also said that the defendant wilfully and unlawfully damaged NPA’s cable by cutting metres of different sizes.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 (d) and 351 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate T.R Oladele granted him N200,000 bail with two responsible sureties each in like sum.
One of the sureties must be an employee of a reputable organization with three years tax payment to Lagos State Government and the second surety must be a blood relation to the defendant.
She adjourned the case till August 9, 2019 for mention.
