Police arraign man for stealing truck tyre, diesel

A 37-year-old man, identified as Chinonso Gabriel, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing truck tyre and N15,000 worth of diesel in Apapa.

Gabriel is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 15, 2019 at about 3pm at Kirikiri Bridge, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.

“The defendant stole one truck tyre valued at N160,000, 15 litres of diesel valued at N15,000. Total value of items stolen N175,000 property of one Ikechukwu Obuinselu,” Tedunjaye said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant between January 12 and January 15, 2019 at Kirikiri Town, stole the sum of N15,000 property of one Ikechukwu Obuinselu.

According to her, the offences are punishable under section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate B.M Amore granted the defendant bail in the sum of N70,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

One of the sureties must be resident of Lagos State.

He adjourned the case till February 7, 2019 for mention.
