Police arraign two for assaulting motorboy

Two alleged armed robbers namely, Chukwuemeka Sunday (22) and Godwin Chukwuemeka (27) were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a motorboy in Lagos.

Sunday and Chukwuemeka are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and assault.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on February 1, 2019 at about 1pm at Maza-Maza Bus Stop, Lagos.

“The defendants conspired together with others at large to steal one Tecno K7 phone valued at N32,000 property of one Musa Ajadi,” Tedunjaye said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants assaulted one Rasheed Aweda by using broken bottle to stab him on his forehead, which caused him bodily harm.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate B.M Amore granted the defendants bail in the sum of N20,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

One of the sureties must be a blood relative to each of the defendants.

He adjourned the case till February 25, 2019 for mention.
