Police arraign men for extorting money from Apapa motorists

Two men, Kingsley Anozie and Umar Yinusa were on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly extorting money from motorists in Apapa, Lagos.

Anozie and Yinusa are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and extortion.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 5, 2018 at about 8:54pm under Marine Bridge, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together to collect unauthorized tolls from innocent motorists,” Inedu said.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 411 and 168 (b and f) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In his ruling, Magistrate Temitope Babalola, granted the duo bail in the sum of N20,000 with one sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case till September 28, 2018 for mention.
