The police on Friday arraigned five men before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly having in their possession weeds suspected to be Indian hemp in Apapa.
The five men are Isiaka Muhammed (19), Emeka Ikebuaku (18), Awolu Muhammed (31), Bala Adamu (19) and Yahaya Abdulahi (18). They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawfully possession of weeds and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 16, 2019 at about 9:50pm at Gidan Drama, Agbo-Malu, Marine Beach, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired to unlawfully have in their possession weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace,” Ekpo said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 329 and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate Adegboyega Taiwo granted them N100,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till August 30, 2019 for mention.
