Police arraign men for stealing, assault

Fake travel agent docked for N265,000 visa fraud

Three men namely Ojora Lateef (21), Alabi Sodiq (18) and Afeez Hammed (19) were on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing phone, ATM card and assaulting one truck driver in Apapa.

The defendants are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and assault.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 19, 2019 at about 11:45am at Railway Line, Ijora-Badia, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together to steal one Nokia phone containing two memory cards, two sim cards, UBA ATM card and cash of N6,500 only property of one Bashir Hussein,” Tedunjaye said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants assaulted Hussein by stabbing him with broken bottle on his hand.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 412, 287 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate B.M Amore granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

One of the sureties must be a blood relation to each defendant.

He adjourned the case till April 10, 2019 for mention.
