A truck driver identified as Nelson Okocha was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly failing to produce driver’s license on demand.
Okocha is facing a four-count charge bordering on failure to produce driver’s license, driving with expired vehicle licence, lack of tools and no functioning headlights.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 6, 2018 at about 8:30am along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
“The defendant being the driver in charge of one DAF truck with registration number AAA 920 XO drove same on the public highway and failed to produce the driver’s license on demand,” Obongha said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant drove same vehicle with expired vehicle licence, lack of tools and no functioning light or head lights.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 10, 3, 36 Cap 124 Vol 6 of the Road Traffic Law 2003.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Magistrate, O. S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Abioye ordered that the truck should remain in police custody while the matter was adjourned till November 23, 2018 for mention.
