A police officer attached to the Area Command Western Ports Tin-Can Island on Tuesday arraigned a 26-year-old man identified as Steven Onyesisi Ikechukwu before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N1.5 million from one Ola Emmanuel.
Ikechukwu is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, false pretence and stealing.
The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the Court that the defendant committed the offences on March 17, 2019 at about 2:30pm at APM Terminals Apapa.
“The defendant conspired with two others at large to falsely represent himself as a National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) member and claimed to be a truck manager, knowing same to be false,” Balogun said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 409, 316 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate T.R Oladele granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till April 30, 2019 for mention.
