The police on Tuesday arraigned two men, Riliwan Rasaq (18) and Idris Tajudeen (20) before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly damaging vehicles and assaulting a member of the public.
The duo is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, malicious damage, breach of peace and assault.
The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ejembe, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on November 24, 2019 at about 11:30am at Oyedeji Street, Ajegunle and its environs.
“The defendants conspired with others at large to maliciously damage two unregistered Toyota Camry windscreens and side glasses, a Mercedes Benz car windscreen and side glasses, Ford bus with registration number JJJ 336 XP, a Toyota Highlander car with registration number FST 331 AA windscreen and side glasses value yet to be estimated, properties of one Babatunde Adekoye, one Oriyomi Abdul Lateef and one Taiwo Olaifa.
“The defendants disturbed the peace of the public by using broken bottles and other dangerous weapons to terrorize passersby.
“They also assaulted one Muritala Mohammed by using a broken bottle to hit him on his forehead which caused him bodily harm,” Ejembe said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 339(1), 404(1) and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate Ayisha Grillo granted them N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of one tax year payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the matter till December 10, 2019 for mention.
