The police on Friday arraigned two men, Isa Ishola (25) and Abeeb Kareem (19), before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly rioting in the Apapa area of Lagos State.
The duo is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and breach of peace. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Marvellous Obongha, told the court that defendants committed the offences on October 23, 2019 at about 7pm at Atolagbe Ifelodun Adegboyega Area, Amukoko, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together with others at large to commit felony to wit rioting and unlawfully assemble together and acted in a disorderly manner as to disturb the peace of the good people of Amukoko area,” Obongha said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 412 and 45(1)(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate Aisha Shittabey granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till January 21, 2020 for mention.
