Reps probe NCAA over N60.4m expenditure

The House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee has commenced investigation into an expenditure of N60.4 million by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The committee said the expenditure, incurred in 2011, was against Financial Regulations.

Chairman of the committee, Kingsley Chinda (PDP, Rivers), said the probe became necessary, as the agency could not defend a query raised by the office of the Auditor General of the Federation.

The query stated that the sum of N54.9m was used as running cost for generators and vehicles, while N5.5m was paid as advance to some staff of the agency.

At a session with the Director General of NCAA, Mukhtar Usman, the panel said the amount was above the threshold of the board of NCAA, placing the agency on status inquiry.

While upholding the query, the panel directed NCAA to furnish it with the number of generators and vehicles it has; the cost of fuelling them; method and sources of fuelling them; budgetary provision for 2011, 2016 and 2017 for fuelling; evidence of all payments made; evidence of relevant tax remittance, among others.

A subcommittee, headed by the deputy chairman of the committee, Ibrahim Baba (APC, Bauchi), was given two weeks to investigate the matter and report back.
