Residents of riverside communities of Adiadia and Issiet Ekim in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State are in mourning following the invasion and killing of six persons by suspected sea pirates.

Houses have also been reportedly razed at Issiet Ekim even as residents have deserted the community.

“The Issiet community is deserted. We leave the community at 6pm and only return in the morning. We live in fear but we are assured that security will be beefed up with the establishment of security posts in the two communities,” a resident said.

The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Moses Ekpo, who condoled with the people of the communities over the loss of lives and property in the attacks, said the government was concerned about the welfare of its people and would do everything within its powers to bring succour to the communities.

Ekpo visited the communities in company of the Commissioner of Police in the state and the Chairman of Uruan Local Government.
