The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has handed over a suspected human trafficker simply identified as Porsu David to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).
Public Relations officer of the command, Taupyen Salenchang said in a statement made available to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY at the weekend that David was arrested with four children at Ashipa axis by officers of the command on November 17th, 2016 at 1200hrs in a vehicle with registration number AGL 538 BB.
In a related development, he said the command has also handed over 14 wraps of suspected Indian hemp and a suspect, Hassan Yusuf to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
He said the suspect was arrested by patrol officers along Ashipa–Gbetromey axis.
Speaking at the handing over of the suspects to the relevant agencies saddled with the responsibility of investigating the suspected trafficker and prosecution of the drugs suspect, Controller of the command, Comptroller Victor Dimka said that the development wasin line with inter-agency cooperation at the international land border.
Represented by Deputy Comptroller, D.C Mulima, A., Dimka pointed out that as the lead agency at the border, Customs would continue to collaborate with the relevant agencies for effective and efficient border management.
He said NCS expects other relevant agencies to reciprocate the gesture by giving classified and credible information about smugglers and other unpatriotic elements involved in trans-border vices.
He assured that Customs will not fail to act promptly against any offender at the border even when the offence committed does not fall directly under the purview of the NCS.
