The Society of Nigerian Mariners (SNM) says it has concluded arrangements to host a crucial leadership meeting of maritime professionals in the country.
Secretary General of SNM, Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, told SHIPS & PORTS DAILY that the meeting is aimed at establishing a road map to strengthen the cooperation amongst mariners and develop strategies that will enhance synergy to foster collective inputs to maritime policies.
Ogbeifun said the meeting has been scheduled to hold at the Civic Centre, Lagos on Saturday 23rd November, 2013.
“As you may be aware, the prime objectives of our society are to consolidate the seafarers’ professional callings that have variously permeated the industry and to strengthen the bond amongst the entities. In recognition of the present government’s demonstrated strong political will to transform the maritime industry and our equally strong desire to make consolidated quality inputs in the process of carrying forward the lofty maritime policies, we seek to hold this crucial round table talk between brothers,” the SNM scribe said in a letter sent to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY.
He said the theme of discussion at the meeting is: The need to strengthen the cooperation and synergy of the maritime professional bodies: Let us talk.
Members of the society include Master Mariners, Marine Engineers/Surveyors and officers of the Nigerian Navy from the rank of Captains and above.
