A 57-year-old man, Anthony Ikejiofor, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly failing to produce one suspect at the Festac Police Station, Lagos.
Ikejiofor is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and failing to produce suspect.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olugbenga Salami, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 18, 2019 at about 1pm at Festac Police Station, Lagos.
“The defendant conspired with one Kemi Ukeagbu to obstruct, prevent, pervert or defeat the course of justice,” Salami said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant stood as surety for one Kemi Ukeagbu in the sum of N5 million and to produce her at the station on every date as requested.
“On July 19, 2019 you (Ikejiofor) were requested to produce the said Kemi Ukeagbu for the DPO’s interview but you did not and also on subsequent dates,” Salami said.
According to him, the defendant should show cause why the bail bond entered into by him should not be forfeited in accordance to sections 97(1) and 132(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Rasheedat Williams-Isichei granted him N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and also furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
According to her, one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.
She adjourned the case till August 1, 2019 for mention.
