A Federal High Court in Abuja remanded ten suspects in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force’s Intelligence Response Team on Monday, over their alleged involvement in illegal firearms and ammunition importation worth N4 billion in June 2024.
The suspects, arraigned before Justice Emeka Nwite, pleaded not guilty to a six-count charge bordering on terrorism and firearm importation.
Due to the lack of legal representation for the 6th and 7th defendants, Justice Nwite adjourned the matter until September 9, 2024, for arraignment and ordered the defendants to be remanded in the IRT’s custody.
The defendants include Ali Ofoma, Okechukwu Charles, Kingsley Chinasa, Oroghodo Maxwell and Akinkuade Segun. The others are Augustine Elechi, Osumini Kennedy, Ajala Ojo, Faboro Oluwatimilehin and Tolulope Ogundepo.
Their legal representatives are Ejeri Ekong (1st and 2nd defendants); C. C. Agigi (3rd defendant); G. O. Igule (4th defendant); Hamid Ogunniyi (5th, 9th, and 10th defendants) and Samuel Ogala (8th defendant).
The 6th and 7th defendants declined free legal representation offered by one Deji Adeyanju and George Ogala, citing their intention to secure their own lawyers.
