Fake travel agent docked for N265,000 visa fraud

Three men namely, Nonso Nwaokocha (24), Ugochukwu Rufus (24) and Bala Jimoh (25) were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly robbing a trailer conductor and a woman along Badagry Expressway.

Nwaokocha, Rufus and Jimoh are facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on November 3, 2018 at about 9pm at Church bus stop along Badagry Expressway.

“The defendants conspired together to steal a bag containing N2,000 cash, ATM card, Tecno phone valued at N60,000 property of one Oge Okereke and one Infinix phone belonging to a trailer conductor,” Ekpo said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The Magistrate ordered that N25,000 must be credited to the Chief Registrar’s account.

He adjourned the case to January 16, 2019 for mention.
