The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has called of its planned three days warning strike.
The union had threatened to embarked on warning strike from today to Friday to protest the deplorable state of the access roads to the Tin Can Island Port.
President General of the Union, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, who confirmed the development to SHIPS & PORTS on Tuesday, said the strike action was suspended after an intervention by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigerian Shippers’ Council.
Adeyanju said the Federal Government, through the NPA, has promised to tackle all the demands raised by the union.
He said, “The three day action is a warning strike but now that NPA and NSC has intervened, we have suspended it. NPA has promised to look into our demands in line with the communiqué we issued at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
“We are meeting with our members today (Wednesday) to brief them on the outcome of the meeting with the NPA.”
