The police on Monday arraigned a suspected traffic thief before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect, Wasiu Isah (19), is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and breach of peace. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 14, 2020 at Trade Fair under bridge, Lagos.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large who specialized on traffic stealing, harassing, snatching of handbag and other valuables from innocent passerby along Lagos-Badagry expressway.
“The defendant forcibly stole one Acatel phone valued at N30,000 and N15,000 cash property of one Okafor Isaac. He conducted himself in a manner that is capable of disrupting public peace by harassing member of the public,” Tedunjaye said.
According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate B.M Amore granted the defendant bail in the sum of N40,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till February 2, 2020 for mention.
