A 45-year-old truck driver, Mutiu Adewale, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting one police officer at Kirikiri, Lagos.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 17, 2018 at about 5pm at Vanguard Junction, Kirikiri.
“The defendant unlawfully assaulted one Inspector Wale Omosehin attached to Kirikiri Police Division by pushing him to the ground from the back while performing his lawful duty,” Ekpo said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till January 23, 2019 for mention.
