Truck driver arraigned for lifting up police officer

Fake travel agent docked for N265,000 visa fraud

A 62-year-old truck driver, Chukwuka Eze, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer in Apapa.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 29, 2018 about 5am at Sifax Junction, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Olodi-Apapa.

“The defendant unlawfully lifted Inspector Lateef Yakub up while he was executing his lawful duty,” Bassey said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate O.S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed.

He adjourned the matter till January 10, 2019 for mention.
