Truck driver docked for traffic offences

A truck driver identified as Ibrahim Musa was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly committing traffic offences along Kirikiri Road, Apapa.

Musa is facing a five-count charge bothering on one-way driving, careless, inconsiderate driving and causing obstruction.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjade told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 30, 2018 at about 10:30am along Kirikiri Road, Apapa.

“The defendant being the driver in charge of DAF truck with registration number FST 767 XT drove same on public highway in a one-way direction and caused obstruction to other road users,” Tedunjade said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant drove in a careless and inconsiderate driving as well as reckless and dangerous driving.

She added that the manner the defendant drove was dangerous and reckless.
According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 3, 40, 18(1), 19(1) and 167(1) of Road Traffic Regulation, 2012

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.

The Magistrate, A.K Tella granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case till June 7, 2018 for mention.
