A 25-year-old truck driver, Donald Agbiakyo, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining money under false pretence and stealing truck parts.
Agbiakyo is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, false pretence and stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 17, 2020 at about 2pm at Amuwo-Odofin, Festac Town, Lagos.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large with intent to defraud obtained the sum of N54,000 from one Onyedu Chukwu with pretence to carry empty container from Amuwo-Odofin to Kirikiri Phase 11, a representation he knows to be false.
“The defendant stole the sum of N54,000 and one rim and tyre of one truck with registration number FST 523 XJ valued at N98,000. Total value of property stolen N162,000 property of one Harzel Services Limited,” Obongha said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate Aisha Shittabey granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to be a family member and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the matter till March 20, 2020 for mention.
