Truck driver in court over N190,000 theft

A 25-year-old truck driver, Odera Anyaji was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N190,000 from the owner in Apapa.

Anyaji is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 21, 2019 at Otto Wharf, Kirikiri Town, Kirikiri, Apapa.

“The defendant stole the sum of N190,000 property of one Benson Okoye Haulage Limited,” Esebamen said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate Adenike Alaka granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till August 29, 2019 for mention.
