Two truck drivers, Awosika Odunayo and Oji Chidi were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly committing traffic offences in Apapa.
Odunayo and Chidi are facing a three-count charge bothering on obstruction, reckless driving and dangerous driving.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyobosa Onaiwu told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 22, 2018 at about 9:45am along Oshodi/Apapa Expressway, Lagos.
“The defendants being the drivers in charge of IVECO truck with registration number LSF 350 XL and FIAT truck with registration number AGL 173 XL respectively drove same on public highway and caused obstruction to other road users,” Onaiwu said.
Onaiwu added that the defendants also drove in a manner which was careless and inconsiderate, reckless and dangerous.
According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 40 (1) and 18 (1) and of Road Traffic Law 2012.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till July 9, 2018 for mention.
