Truck owner drags driver to court over N.4m theft

Oil marketers docked for $8.4m AGO fraud

A 27-year-old truck driver, Madu Princewill, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N471,500 belonging to a truck owner, Samuel Omadayi.

Princewill is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 25, 2019 at GMT Haulage Garage, Kirikiri, Apapa.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. Magistrate Aisha Shittabey granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till July 23, 2019 for mention.
