Truck owner drags driver to court over tyre theft

A truck owner on Monday dragged one Emeka Okoye (38), his driver before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his tyre valued at N82,000 at Kirikiri Town, Lagos. 

Okoye is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Usman Sanni told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 3, 2019 at about 4pm at Okoduwa Street, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.

“The defendant stole one tyre valued at N82,000 property of one Ezeigwe Ikechukwu Sunday,” Sanni said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate L.O Kazeem granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety.

The surety is required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

The Magistrate adjourned the case till May 20, 2019 for mention.
