Two stowaways, Adewale Omojuwa (25) and Chimezie Obiora (29), have pleaded guilty when they were on Monday arraigned by the police before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for boarding a vessel without purchasing ticket at the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa.
The duo were charged for conspiracy and illegal voyage.
The port prosecutor, Inspector Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on December 12, 2019.
“The defendants conspired together to commit offence to wit misdemeanour and without purchasing ticket or being a passenger of a ship entered MT DURIC PIONEER VESSEL with the intention of travelling to Europe,” Balogun said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 412 and 400 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Upon their guilty pleas, Magistrate Aisha Shittabey adjourned the matter till December 20, 2019 for facts and sentence.
