Two men, Isaac Kadih (41) and Waheed Ishola (33), were on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) towing equipment.
Kadih and Ishola are facing a three-count charge bordering on entering Apapa quays without NPA permit and stealing.
The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendants committed the offences on February 4, 2018 at about 5:05am at NPA premises.
“One of the defendants, Kadih, entered into Apapa quays without the NPA ticket and stole 4 iron towing spacer valued at N450,000 property of NPA,” Balogun said.
The port prosecutor also said that the other defendant, Ishola, received wire valued at N60,000 from Kadih property of NPA.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 398, 287(5)(b) and 328(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate, Adenike Alaka granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till December 6, 2018 for trial.
