Katsina Governor Aminu Bello Masari has threatened legal action against the Nigeria Customs Service after 10 residents were killed during a border drill operation in Jibia.
A statement by the Governor’s Director-General Media, Abdulabaran Malumfashi, said Masari condemned the frequent killing of innocent residents in the state by Customs officials.
“The Governor condemns in the strongest term the oft-recurring senseless killings of citizens through reckless driving by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service.
“Government will henceforth not condone any more of such incidents again.
‘’Government is considering instituting legal action against the Nigeria Customs Service so that it may serve as a deterrent against a future occurrence of these fatal incidents which have assumed a frightening regularity in the state,” the statement read.
The Governor, while extending his condolences to the families of the deceased and those who sustained injuries, warned that his government would not fold its arm while law-abiding citizens are killed by government agents who are supposed to protect them.
SHIPS & PORTS reported that last week that Customs officials killed 10 people and injured several others through reckless driving in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Customs officials have killed more than 30 people in the southwest and more than 40 nationwide under the present management led by Hameed Ali.
