Woman docked for assault, theft in Apapa

Fake travel agent docked for N265,000 visa fraud

A 45-year-old woman, Ifeoma Onyeka, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting and stealing the sum of N62,000 from another woman in Apapa.

Onyeka is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and assault. She pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 17, 2019 at about 3:30pm along Achakpo Road by Uzor Junction, Ajegunle, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal the sum of N62,000 property of one Bright John and also assaulted her by biting Bright with her teeth on her left hand causing her bodily harm,” Bassey said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Magistrate L.A Owolabi granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

The Magistrate adjourned the matter till January 14, 2020 for mention.
