Woman drags clearing agents to court over N420,000 theft

Two clearing agents namely, Saheed Hassan (25) and Abubakar Abdullahi (24), were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N420,000 belonging to one woman, Abimbola Azeez.

The defendants are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 30, 2019 at Tin Can Island, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired to steal the sum of N420,000 property of one Abimbola Azeez,” Ekpo said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Magistrate Rasheedat Williams-Isichei granted them N100,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till September 9, 2019 for mention.
