We won’t allow violation of workers’ rights in Chevron — PENGASSAN

The new chairman of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) Chevron Branch, Comrade Onyegbaren Ete, has promised to ensure the implementation of the Collective Bargain Agreement (CBA) the company reached with workers.

Ete spoke at the Fourth Triennial Delegates’ Conference of PENGASSAN Chevron Branch in Benin City, Edo State, at the weekend, where he emerged as the new branch chairman for the next three years.

Ete promised that he would conduct the activities of the PENGASSAN branch in the oil company in line with the organisation and the union code of conducts.

He said, “As legally recognised representatives of our members, the Branch Executive Council (BEC) will put its feet on the ground in disputes with management over violations of our CBA provisions.”

In his remarks, the PENGASSAN President, Comrade Francis Olabode Johnson, commended the delegates for their spirit of oneness and comradeship to collectively surmount many challenges confronting the union.

The Immediate Past Chairman, Comrade Frank Esanubi, in his welcome address, noted that the past years was very challenging due to negative growth of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), worsening exchange rates for the naira, double digit inflation, among other economic woes.
