Clearing agent on trial for stealing printer, spare parts

A 30-year-old clearing agent, Emeka Umeh was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing goods worth N196,000 from one Chidi Ben Mbagwu.

Umeh is facing a two-count charge bothering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpeyo told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 4, 2018 at Young Shall Grow Motor Park, Maza-Maza, Lagos.

According to him, the offences are punishable under section 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate O.S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be gainfully employed and must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till May 14, 2018 for mention.
