Two men — Sunday Michael Emeka (21) and Sunday Anthony Okwor (27) — were on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing two Korean heavy-duty batteries in Apapa, Lagos.
Emeka and Okwor are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha told the court that the defendants committed the offences on February 22, 2019 at about 2am at Happy Home Avenue, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together to steal two Korean heavy duty batteries valued at N74,000 property of one Adolphus Ozuruigbo,” Obongha said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. One of the sureties must also be a pastor.
She adjourned the case till April 1, 2019 for mention.
