The police on Wednesday arraigned two men identified as Udochukwu Udoka Onyebula (28) and John Chukwu (39) before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing one heavy-duty battery and 250 litres of diesel in Apapa.
The defendants are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and wilful damage.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Alexander Esebamen told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 18, 2019 at Ijora-Bridge, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together with others at large to steal one heavy duty battery valued at N50,000 and 250 litres of diesel valued at N110,000 property of one Paul Azubike,” Esebamen said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants wilfully damaged truck bumper valued at N80,000 and windscreen valued at N30,000. Total valued at N110,000 property of one Paul Azubike.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Magistrate A.I.O Alaka granted the defendants bail in the sum N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate said the sureties must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till April 16, 201 for mention.
