60-year-old truck driver in court for assaulting woman

A 60-year-old truck driver, Donatus Obiagazie, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting one woman, Zulai Osama, at NEPA Road, Ojo, Lagos.

Obiagazie is facing a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace.

The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 9, 2019 at about 7:30pm at NEPA Road, Ojo, Lagos.

“The defendant unlawfully assaulted one Zulai Osama by giving her fist blows all over her body which made her sustain internal injury,” Babatope said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by causing pandemonium.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 170 and 166(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate Olukayode Kadiri granted him N50,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till September 25, 2019 for mention.
