A 22-year-old man, identified as Chidiemere Daniel, on Monday pleaded guilty before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court to stealing $150, phones and other items from a Cameroonian at a hotel in Lagos.
Daniel is facing a three-count charge of unlawful destruction, breach of peace and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 11, 2019 at about 6pm at Promise Land Hotel, Maza-Maza, Lagos.
“The defendant unlawfully destroyed a pair of trousers valued at N10,000 property of one Dukume Janjaki.
“He conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by using a razor blade to cut the pocket of one Dukume Janjaki to steal his properties.
“The following items were stolen; N15,500, $150 (N52,000), one Itel camera phone valued at N42,000, one X-tigi camera phone valued at N87,500,” Ekundayo said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 350, 168(d) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Ramotalai Morafa adjourned the matter till October 17, 2019 for facts and sentence.
