The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Dr. Adewale Adeniyi, has received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to public relations, strategic communication and institutional reforms.
Adeniyi was honoured last Thursday at the 2026 NCS Public Relations Conference Award Dinner Night held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The ceremony also saw the NCS reward officers and personnel who had distinguished themselves through hard work, professionalism and dedication.
The National Public Relations Officer of the Service, Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, said the awards were designed to motivate officers and promote excellence within the organisation.
“Recognising excellence is one of the most effective ways of motivating officers to do more. Tonight, we celebrate commitment, hard work and the values that continue to strengthen the image and reputation of the Nigeria Customs Service,” Maiwada said.
The President of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, Ike Neliaku, commended Dr. Adeniyi’s leadership, particularly his efforts to promote professionalism and capacity building within the Customs Public Relations Unit.
Neliaku said strategic communication remained crucial to institutional success and public confidence.
The President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Alhassan Yahaya, also described the award initiative as an investment in human capital.
He urged the recipients to remain committed to ethical conduct, transparency and national service.
Other recipients included Superintendents of Customs Elizabeth Anawanti and Umar Abdullahi, who received the Distinguished Service Award in Public Relations.
Chief Superintendents Nuruddeen Sa’idu and Yusuf were honoured for their outstanding contributions to the development of the NCS Public Relations Unit.
Chief Superintendent Lukman Abdullahi-Lagos won the Alex Akiyenyele Award for Outstanding PRO of the Year.
The ceremony also featured awards for the best-dressed male and female officers, while Abdulkarim Zurmi and Lucy Nyambi were recognised as the Best NCBN Staff Attached to the Public Relations Unit.
The event was attended by senior Customs officers, media executives, public relations practitioners and development partners.
