A 33-year-old clearing agent, Daniel Abhulimhen Eromosele, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N1.5 million meant for clearing three imported vehicles at the Apapa port.
Eromosele is facing a two-count charge bordering on false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Feddy Asu told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in January 2019 at Apapa.
“The defendant obtained the sum of N1.5 million from one Adebowale Ojerinde with the pretence to clear three vehicles for him at Apapa port which he failed to do,” Asu said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole the sum of N1.5 million from the complainant.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314(3) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate M.O Olubi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with the evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till April 8, 2019 for mention.
