Container truck driver gets N100,000 bail for alleged car damage

A 34-year-old truck driver, Msibawo Ewebiye, who allegedly drove dangerously and damaged a Mercedes Benz car, was on Monday in Lagos granted N100, 000 bail.

A Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, which gave the ruling, asked Ewebiye to provide two sureties as part of the bail condition. ‎

The Chief Magistrate, M.I. Dan- Oni, said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should reside in Lagos State. She said the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government. ‎

The accused, who resides at No. 6, Jet Road, Apapa, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of driving dangerously and causing damage, driving without license and vehicle particulars.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Christopher Okoliko, told the court that the accused committed the offence at about 2.00 p.m. on Nov. 25 along Badagry expressway. ‎

Okoliko alleged that the accused who was driving a 40ft container truck with registration no. LSD 976 XC drove dangerously, not caring for other road users.

“He ran into the Mercedes Benz E Class with registration number LRS 765 TF, property of one Emeka Oguetiofor.

“The accused was unable to provide a valid vehicle particulars and driver’s license,’’ he said. ‎ ‎

The offences contravened Sections 19(1) part 5 and 31(1) of the Road Traffic ‎Law of Lagos State, 2012.

The magistrate adjourned the case to Dec.19 for mention.
