Dakuku, others mourn late Maritime Command Police chief Pius Imue

Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dakuku Peterside has commiserated with the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, the immediate family and the entire Police Force on the demise of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Maritime command, AIG Pius Imue.

SHIPS & PORTS DAILY had reported exclusively that Imue died at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos last Monday after a protracted illness.

The NIMASA DG who expressed shock at the death of AIG Pius Imue described him as a fine officer who was dedicated to the force and particularly to issues relating to safety and security in the Lagos port area.

“Let me commiserate with the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris and the entire Police Force on the death of one of its finest officers in the Force, especially now that his services are needed more at the ports. AIG Pius brought to bear his expertise in the sector and was a rallying point for all stakeholders in the industry”, he said.

Peterside said Imue showed professionalism and expertise in fighting crime in the country; and “we would like to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to you, your team and the entire Nigeria Police fraternity at this trying moment. We also pray that God Almighty will comfort his immediate family”.

Some of the top Police officers who spoke with SHIPS & PORTS DAILY described Imue as a kind hearted father, a hard working officer and a great loss to the Nigeria Police Force.

In some of the condolence messages in the register which has been placed at the command since Monday, DCP Isaac Akinmoyede wrote, “Your death is like a dream to us your subordinates. Your coming to Maritime Command as the AIG completely changed the status quo. The zeal with which you approached your assignment was tremendous. Surely, your ideas and encouragement gave us hope that the Maritime Command could still be restructured to function properly. Indeed, you had fought a great battle and have shown us the positives that existed in life. Left to us, our wish is for you to live for ever. However, God knows best. I pray to the Almighty God to comfort your family in this trying times and give them the fortitude to bear your loss. Adieu, the hero of our time.”.

CP David Folawiyo said, “Today as a mark of great respect for a deserving boss, the best AIG MPC so far. I write in testimony to the big loss to Nigeria Police of an able and hardworking officer who gave his best in the short while that he served at the MPC Hq; galvanising the staff and the entire MPC command, bonding the MPC with stakeholders in the domain and percolating every inch of the terrain to launch the MPC in grand style. With AIG Pius Imue the police were set to make indelible and epoch mark. He will be remembered for all this for a long time to come by all those he met in the short while that he was the Chief here. RIP boss.”

CP BD Gwana (CP Airport) wrote, “Though the destination you have gone to is the ultimate destiny of the whole mankind, but we least thought it will happen so soon.  May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace.  May God grant the family you left behind and the police family the courage to bear this very sad and untimely loss. Amen.”

Also, ACP Inoma Abbey said, “Today, other colleagues and I at the Maritime Police Command regret that our father, our new inspiration and our hope for a great maritime department have suddenly left us. Even though I have not known you for too long, the brief period I worked under your Command has shown me that you are an enterprising and kind hearted father. Without mincing words, your direct staff will miss you greatly. You have left us so soon at a time we need you more. May your soul rest in the bosom of the Lord,” amongst other condolence messages.
