Police arraign woman for stealing N.3m cash from importer

The police on Thursday arraigned a woman identified as Chinenye Eze (23) before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N300,000 cash from an importer at Apapa.

Eze is facing a one-count of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 5, 2019 at about 11am at Agric Building Material, Amukoko, Apapa.

“The defendant stole the sum of N300,000 cash being property of Grade Building Accessories Ltd,” Ekpo said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty. Magistrate M.O Kadiri granted her bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government. One of the sureties must be a parent of the defendant.

He adjourned the case till May 16, 2019 for trial.
