Five men on Friday regained their freedom after four months in detention when an Apapa Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos, struck out the case against them.
The Magistrate, Temitope Babalola struck out the four-count charge of conspiracy, willful damage and stealing against them.
The men – Abiola Ajadi, 30, Kingsley David, 20, Osaro Alika, 30, Sadiq Fatai, 22 and James Ezeukwu, 25 – were first arraigned on March 24, 2017.
According to the prosecuting counsel, they committed the alleged offences on March 23, 2017 at about 6am at Sandfill area of Tin Can Island Port where they allegedly conspired to willfully damage the side door glass of one Fiat T7 Truck with registration number KRD 298 XG valued at N100,000, property of Buildwell Tractor and Equipment Company.
The police prosecutor also accused them of stealing a battery valued at N130,000.
