An Apapa Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos on Friday remanded one man identified as Joseph Irumekhai (43) for an armed robbery case and stealing different models of phones worth N133,000.
Irumekhai is facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing using violence.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 19, 2019 at about 6am at Alaba Oro/Odumade Market, Amukoko.
“The defendant conspired with others at large using violence to steal one Tecno phone valued at N5,000, one IPAD phone valued at N80,000, one International passport and credentials and physical cash of N50,000 property of one Barrister Kenneth Godwin Nnaji,” Ekpo said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant used violence to steal one Tecno L8 Lite phone valued at N25,000, one wrist watch valued at N3,000 and physical cash of N7,000 property of one Sylvester Ofili.
The prosecutor added that the defendant used violence to steal one Tecno phone valued at N18,500 and physical cash of N10,000 property of one Chidinma Tam.
Ekpo also said the defendant used violence to steal one Nokia phone valued at N4,500 and a cash of N10,000 property of one Joy Ofili.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 299 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate M.O Kadiri ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison and the case file be transferred to Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.
He adjourned the matter till June 24, 2019 for mention.
