Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

A 34-year-old man identified as Lawrence Edet was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing one Toyota Sienna car valued at N2 million in Apapa.

Edet is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Olugbenga Salami, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in February 2019 at Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others to steal one Toyota Sienna car with registration number KJA 190 CB valued at N2 million,” Salami said.

The alleged offences, he said, are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate O.A Erinle granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.

One of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.

She adjourned the case till July 1, 2019 for mention.
