A 36-year-old man, identified as Fredrick Akowei, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing phones from passerby in Apapa.
Akowei is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 25, 2019 at about 2am at Magbesa Street, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by stealing phones from passerby,” Perezi said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 413 and 168(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate O.A Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
One of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.
She adjourned the case till February 12, 2019 for mention.
