Men docked for obstructing police officers in Apapa

Three men namely Osobowo Emmanuel (48), Oreasho Segun (30) and Wasiu Bello (22) were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obstructing and resisting police officers on routine patrol in Apapa.

The three men are facing a two-count charge bordering on obstruction and breach of peace.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on January 23, 2019 at about 10:30pm at Apapa.

“The defendants obstructed and resisted police officers on routine Anti-Crime night patrol within the Apapa Area Command,” Onaiwu said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 117(1)(2) and 168(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate O.S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in each like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till February 21, 2019 for mention.
