The police on Friday arraign Chukwuka Abanu (25) and Gabriel Patrick (23) before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing an Infinix phone with offensive weapons in Apapa.
Abanu and Patrick are facing a seven-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on January 22, 2019 at about 4:20am at no 18, Odofin Akinsoye Street, Ago-Hausa, Ajegunle, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together with others at large to burgle the residence of one Chimezie Ifeoma with knife and other offensive weapons for the purpose of robbery,” Bassey said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants unlawfully assembled together and acted in a disorderly manner, which disturbs the peace of people in Ago-Hausa, Babani Street and environs in Ajegunle.
Bassey added that the defendants were found with knife and other offensive weapons in public without authority. They applied the use of dangerous weapons and actual violence to steal Infinix phone valued at N60,000 property of one Chimezie Ifeoma.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 299, 307(c), 300(b), 45(2), 51, 301 and 296 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against them.
Magistrate A.S Okubule granted the defendants bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties each like sum.
sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She ordered that the file be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice and adjourned the case till February 25, 2019 for mention.
