The police on Monday arraigned two men, Chukwuka Wary (38) and Freeborn Ovierare (30), before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly extorting money from truck drivers in Lagos.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 22, 2019 at about 2pm at Maza-Maza bus stop along Lagos/Badagry Expressway.

“The defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by forcefully stopping trucks on the public highway and extorting money from truck drivers,” Aigbokhan said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 168 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded guilty to the charge against them.

Magistrate A.O Olorunfemi adjourned the case till May 7, 2019 for facts and sentence.
